Sucking the Marrow Out of Life

Senior Challenge Day 11

How you spent your most memorable lunch hangout

I’ve had so many wonderful lunches with friends throughout high school, like the time on the Kiosk when I accidentally knocked my best friend Imani over and we all laughed hysterically for 10 minutes, or the first day of senior year when we were so excited to go off campus for lunch that we could barely even eat. My most memorable lunch, however, was a very unusual one: the time I ate lunch with Reverend Samuel Billy Kyles, one of Martin Luther King JR’s best friends. He was such an inspiring guy and it was amazing to get to speak to a living piece of history.

Dear Photograph,
I found this photo of my mother’s parents while looking through her most beloved things after she had suddenly passed away.  My grandfather, who I never met, had written on the back of the photo; ” Yoyita, every time you see this photo remember an unforgettable Sunday for me.” Now I know why my mother knew how to love her husband and children with such an honest and pure love….she learned it from her parents.
Thank you Mom, we will never forget to love.
